Push on through fatigue and fear

Hola Familia y Amigos 🙂

I hope everyone has had a great week…enjoying summer and the beautiful weather there! I can´t believe it is ALREADY Monday again! I love and hate it, but mostly hate it because I just want more time in the day to do everything we want to do. We have 40 or so investigators from street contacts that we still haven’t gone to teach lessons to because we are already working with a lot. But we need to better about really evaluating WHO will progress and who won’t! We have some very positive investigators right now, but had to leave others this week which was really hard. These first few weeks in the field have been so hard for me because we have had to be SO patient to see fruits of our hard work. This past Sunday was the first Sunday we had investigators in church from our own efforts. Every Sunday we have gone to 4 or 5 houses of our investigators before church to pick them up but NONE of them has ever come. Finally this Sunday, we were accompanied by some of our investigators, which was so great!! Unfortunately the parents didn’t accompany us so we walked into church with 6 investigators under 15 years of age, hahaha. One of them came with her 3 younger siblings. We contacted her in the street with a message about eternal families. We saw her a day or two later in the street and the first thing she said was ¨When can I come to your church?!” CALIDAD. Hahah, their family is so so special. We´ve taught the children a lesson but have yet to meet the single mother. She has 9 children, ages 21 to 3, but one of them is working with their father far away, so we´ve only met 8. We feel really good about their family and are so excited to work with them more this week!!

I’ve had so many crazy experiences these last two weeks but I really can’t remember ANYTHING, hahahah. I need to be better about jotting down events throughout the week. Hermana Peña was really sick for a few days this week and one day I went on exchanges with a member for a few hours so we could teach some lessons that day. We´ve had to drop more and more investigators that aren’t progressing and it´s sad! I was having a little bit of a hard day for some reason yesterday after church as we were walking to contact some references. What’s hard is that as missionaries you don’t have much time to feel sorry for yourself. 🙂 I just told myself if I could be as positive as possible and keep going, we would be successful! We didn’t even get to the house of the reference because we stopped to ask at a few houses and at each one we met new families to teach! One was a family of ELEVEN investigators. I know that the Lord knows me and He knows this work. I know that as we keep pushing, especially when it is the hardest, He will guide us to places where we can meet more of His children so we can help remind them of their elect status.

Another miracle last night! Earlier in the week, (interestingly, again on a harder night), we were walking in the street behind a mother, father, and baby who saw us and appeared to almost slow down as if to wait for us. We caught up with them and began talking and they hurriedly explained exactly where they lived and expressed their emotion for our visit later in the week. BIEN PILAS ELLOS. Hahah, we went to their house a few days later at the appointed time (their house, by the way, is one of the highest houses in our area and guarded by dogs that bite, as we were later told by the father´s brother) and they weren´t there! We were a little disappointed but had met a lot of new people on the way up which was great! We set a new time and day and descended back down the mountain. Last night, as we were coming out of a meeting with the mission leader, we saw them walking with the father’s mother in the street! We ran over to them and started talking as the elders walked over too and we invited them to take a tour of the chapel right then! They accepted and were so excited and grateful and said they would be at church on Sunday and we set a new time and date to meet. Love them. We are excited to work with them too!

Funny story of the week: Yesterday we were walking in the street and I pulled an oreo out of my bag and Hna Peña starts singing “oreo, oreo” as I looked at her a little confused and realized she had confused the words of “spiderman, spiderman, does whatever a spider can” hahah. WE DIED laughing in the middle of the street.

This morning I was listening to “Praise to the Man” and I was so touched by the lyric “Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of Heaven.” I have a testimony that sacrifice brings forth the blessings of Heaven, a faith and hope in the blessings that are set before all of us for all the things that seem like sacrifices in this life. Maybe it is our natural man or our lack of eternal perspective at moments when it seems like we are sacrificing so much for the Lord and for His work upon this Earth. But that “sacrifice” is what brings forth the blessings of Heaven! Wait for and have faith in those blessings! I promise they are worth it. I was also touched by President Eyring´s talk from Nov. 2011, “Preparation in the Priesthood: I Need Your Help”, even though I don’t personally hold the priesthood, haha. He talks about the oath and covenant of the priesthood, and even though I have not made that covenant pertaining to the priesthood, I think the preparation he talks about applies to all of us. He says, “The Lord has given us the opportunity to prepare…. It is a covenant we make with God to keep all His commandments and give service as He would give it if He were personally present. Living up to that standard as best we can builds the strength we will need to endure to the end. Great priesthood trainers have shown me how to build that strength: it is to form a habit of pushing on through the fatigue and fear that might make you think of quitting. The Lord´s great mentors have shown me that spiritual staying power comes from working past the point when others would have taken a rest.” Don’t let fatigue or fear or failing let you think of quitting. Push on; you will be strengthened and you will strengthen YOURSELF as you do so. Keep working hard to be who you were sent here to be! I love you allll!

All my love,

Hermana Marcheschi
